Your Site, Your Voice!

March 24, 2009@ 11:10 am

A new feature just added to this site is the abilities for students to contribute their own content. You can share your voice with the Courtice online community. We are currently looking for writers and journalists to report on events and activities going on around our school.  You could share the latest score from last nights rugby game, talk about an upcoming event, or give an idea on how the school could be more green.

The process will work quite simply.
1) Make sure you register for an account on this site.
2) Post a comment on this post describing what you would like to write about.
3) The site admin will upgrade your account so that when you log in you will be able to start writing posts.
4) Write an article and select which category you would like to publish it under, if you not sure just leave as uncategorized.
5) When you are done hi submit for review, and your article will be submitted.
6) Once an editor has reviewed your article they will publish it to the site and it will be live.
7) Feel free to write as many articles as you like.

I will be producing a video shortly to walk you through the process of submitting your articles in the near future.

SBI3U1 ISU

March 5, 2009@ 10:28 am

The purpose of your ISU is to carry out a scientific enquiry that requires you to collect and analyse data.

Be sure to follow the steps;

  1. Ask a question.
  2. Research the topic
  3. Guess at an answer based on what you learned through your research. (Hypothesis)
  4. Test your guess by designing a carefully controlled experiment.  Try to change only one thing at a time.
  5. Collect lots of observations, both descriptive (Qualitative) and numeric (Quantitative).
  6. Organise and Analyse your data using charts and graphs.
  7. Conclude by answering your original question, looking for possible errors, and asking further questions.  If you have time, you could conduct experiments on these new questions.
  8. Plan an interesting presentation, with pictures, large colourful graphs and samples (where appropriate).

Good Luck!

Feel free to post any questions that you may have (or ask them in class)!  Never be shy to ask, because others may have the same question, or may benefit from the answer.

Class Blog Rules to Live By

March 3, 2009@ 9:30 pm

I have noticed that some of the comments that are being posted are a bit inappropriate or rude at times. As such, they have not been approved to be posted and have been deleted.

I want to put in place some rules. Keep in mind, that all posts have to be approved before they will be posted.

Remember: Anything that you post online is there FOREVER. As such, maturity is expected.

1) Do not post names online. Use user names. Also, do not insult or poke fun at other users through a blog post.

2) You should never say anything about your teachers online that could be interpreted in a negative manner.

3) Keep comments based on in-class discussion, assignments, or just general questions based on what we are doing in class.

4) Use proper English…this is a blog for English class.

5) Be respectful of your peers or online users!

Overall, just keep all comments appropriate to a classroom learning environment. I hope that all of you feel comfortable enough to express your thoughts and questions in a constructive manner that furthers your education.
