ENG 4U Seminar Assignment Handouts

Hello ENG 4U,
A number of students were away today so I am posting the main assignment sheets for the group seminar project that we will be working on from Wednesday – Friday in the library. You will need to collect some of the extra handouts when you return to class as well.
Groups were chosen today – 3 people per group – and short stories were assigned to each group. Please see Ms. Hill or Ms. Matthews if you are unsure what group you are in.
Seminar presentations will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Your “Quest” for the unit is on Friday, March 5th and your personal essay is due on that date as well.
Week 4 – ENG 4U1 – Matthews

Here is your schedule for this week:
Monday:
- Reviewing the story “The Possibility of Evil”
- Review of MLA Format
- How to Create an Annotated Bibliography
- Looking at Literary Criticism for the short story and creating an annotation – Your annotation for this literary criticism is due on Wednesday.
Homework: Read “Bones” – it is in your textbook on p. 57.
Tuesday:
- Activities for “Bones”
- Introduction to the Short Story Seminar Project – choosing groups.
Wednesday: Your Annotations of the Literary Criticism for “The Possibility of Evil” is due today!
- We will be in the library working on your short story seminars.
Thursday:
- We will be in the library working on your short story seminars.
Friday:
- We will be in the library working on your short story seminars.
Next Week:
Seminars will be presented and you will be having a quiz on all of the stories and terms learned! Reminder – Your Personal Essay is due on Friday, March 5th!

- Newspaper Article Writing – Re-writing an article from the point of view of an athlete.

- Finishing your newspaper article and pasting it in your scrapbook
- Choosing another article for your sport of choice
Wednesday:
- Choosing another article for your sport of choice.
How to write an opinion piece – A letter to the editor based on an Olympic article you have read.
Thursday:
- Choosing another article for your sport of choice.
- Finishing your Letter to the Editor
- How to create a newspaper advertisement – An ad for the Olympics
Friday:
- Choosing another article for your sport of choice
- Getting caught up on any of the writing assignments for your scrapbook.
- Creating a title page for your scrapbook.
Next week: We will be finishing up our scrapbooks and reflecting on the Olympics. We will also be having a quiz on all of the skills and terms we have learned from our Non-Fiction / Olympic Unit. The Acceleration Unit will be introduced as well.

Parent Survey
February 16th, 2010
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board Parent Involvement Committee invites all parents to complete an on-line survey. This is a survey about how parents prefer to communicate with schools and the school board, and asks about awareness of various parent involvement opportunities, such as in-school volunteering, school councils and the Parents’ Conference. The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete and the results will be used by the Parent Involvement Committee to inform future decisions.
