School rings

Josten will be selling school rings in the front foyer on April 15 and April 16 2010. In addition to traditional school rings they will also have a number of “championship” rings for athletic teams. We have an abundance of champions this year and team members might want to have a personalized ring as a memory piece.

Important dates for this week:
Your Artist’s Notebook Assignment for Section 4 is due Thursday.
You must have all of section 4 read by Thursday’s class for our class discussion.
You have a quiz on the first day back from the long weekend on Section 4.
REMINDER: You should be reading your play at this point. You must have both your novel and play read for your ISU conferences on April 12th. You must also have 4 annotations complete and ready to hand in for April 12th.
Week 8 – ENG 2L1 – Matthews

Attention grade 10 students – you have a quiz tomorrow (Tuesday) on chapters 1-10 of Acceleration.
This week you will be working on filling up your lost and found box. Bring in items from home! Remember you need 10 items!!!
We will be reading Chapters 11 – 14 this week.
If you did not finish your Acceleration newspaper article, it is your responsibility to do it for homework!

We are continuing both Literacy & Poetry this week. We are both writing and analyzing poems this week. We will also be having our Poetry Quiz – Thursday
Eng 2D:
We will be having our last two literacy meetings for our novel study this week. Quiz #2 – Monday. We are also spending two days in computer labs working in small groups on our Fahrenheit 451 – Research Assignment (Presentations will take place after Easter – Wed. April 6th)

Monday & Tuesday this week we are in the computer lab working in our Literacy Groups as we do a research presentation on a major topic/theme from our literacy novels. We will present these on Thursday to the class. In addition to our continued concentration on our Literacy Novels, we are also still focusing on our Poetry Unit.
Eng 2D:
Mini Essay – Due: Monday. We will have Quiz #1 on our novel F451. We have another reflection journal, character analysis & the viewing of the film Equilibrium seeking comparisons to our novel study.

Hockey at OFSAA
March 24th, 2010
Monday and Tuesday the boys and girls hockey teams competed in OFSAA. The boys lost to the #2 ranked team 4-2 (including an empty net goal) and the girls tied their game 2-2 against the #2 ranked team, but beat #9 team 2-1. Both teams will play again tommorow.

Durham College Summer Camps

During the summer there will be a Rock ‘n’ Roll summer camp at Durham College for ages 9-14. You will be able to learn how to play or improve on the guitar, bass , drums , and keyboards. Also, you will learn about songwriting, sound and lighting, band promotion, and stage presence. read more
Week 7 – ENG 4U1 – Matthews

Here are some important upcoming due dates:
Tuesday – the Lyric assignment for section 2 of Fifth Business is due. You were given this assignment before the break.
Friday – The Twitter assignment for section 3 of Fifth Business is due.
There will be an in-class discussion of section 3 on Friday and a quiz on Monday!
REMINDER: The ISU Conferences are quickly approaching. You must have your novel AND play read for your conference. You must also have completed 4 annotations for your conference. This means that you should be reading everyday and looking for secondary sources that relate to your books for your annotations.
The conferences begin on April 12 and your annotations must be handed in at that time. Come prepared with notes that you have taken as you were reading and any notes that relate to the essay you will write. Please see me if you need some help or clarification.

This week we will be starting our Lost and Found box for Acceleration. A reminder to look at home for items to put in your box.
We will be continuing to read the novel this week.
Also, we will be focusing on News Report writing this week – you will be writing a news report related to the events of the novel.
