Finals Again

May 18th, 2012

Your Junior Girls rugby team is headed to the quad “A”  LOSSA finals for the second straight year.  In their semi final match on Friday against the previously unbeaten GL Roberts your Cougars came out of the gate quickly.  The forwards led by Linda “keep it low” Hamed and Jessica “in a Chevy town” Ford overpowered the bigger GL forwards at the breakdowns.  The backs supported each other well throughout the game and played a swarming defense led by Chrissy “bruises” Gilbert and Meaghan “try given” Nakamura on the wings.  The result a 22-7 victory.  For the second game in a row it was a total team effort.

Scoring for the Cougars were:

Tanya “afternoon games” Hollingshead with two trys.

Ashley “brace for impact” Czop and Carly “leader of the pack” Warren with one try a piece.

The lone convert was from the boot of Alex “post” Groves

The finals take place on Wednesday at Raglan.

These girls play rugby.  What is your superpower?

On to the Semis

May 15th, 2012

Your Junior girls rugby team faced Ajax in their first round playoff yesterday.  The team started slowly but tackled well in the first ten minutes.  When they got on track your Cougars played a strong ball possession game and the backs ran with speed and power.  The result a 27-0 victory.

It was truly a team effort with contributions from all players.  Notable performers and scorers were:

Alex “returns” Groves with flawless tackling to go with her first try and a convert.

Tanya “had em in stitches” Hollingshead with a try

Natasha “nice boots” Burry ended the game with a try and tackled with abandon

Ashley “freight train” Czop who would not be denied in her two try performance.

A special mention to the “Pack” the most fearsome forwards in junior rugby who dominated the scrums and ran with power and truculence.

Theses girls play rugby. What is your superpower?

Season 1 Ends

May 9th, 2012

Your senior girls rugby team ended their regular season against Pineridge yesterday.  After warming up in a light rain shower the game started slowly.  At about the 10 minute mark your Cougars remembered the game that they play so well.  The result a 44-5 win, the highest point total of the modern Courtice girls rugby era.  Starting the game with only 17 players and finishing with no available subs your team was efficient in victory.

Notable performers:

Vicki “drive” Derbyshire with a powerful run.

Alex “hands” Ansell with her strongest game so far.

Sarah “hostess” Joseph distributing the ball well and running hard.

Scoring were:

Erica “boom goes the dynamite” Cogo with her first ever try.

Dominique “under the posts” Manderson-Gray with two trys.

Corlyn “super 8 senior” Turner with two.

and Emily “don’t like the sidelines” Martin with a convert.

Oh, almost forgot, with 17 points on her 17th birthday Reagan “did the math” MacDonald with two trys, a penalty and two converts including one on a drop kick.

13 days and counting ladies.

Clarington Cup Heads Home

May 8th, 2012

After a long wait your Cougar’s girls rugby team finally had the chance to avenge a loss versus CCSS.  The junior girls did not disappoint.  The team stuck to their game and overpowered the team from Clarington.  While the veterans did the scoring, strong performances were seen from many rookies including:

Breanne “pick and go” Hogarth

Chrissy “tackles” Gilbert  and

Makayla “I’ll be at practice” Hudson

Scoring trys in the 35-0 win were:

Ashley “try cubed” Czop with 3

Natasha ”get me the stickum” Burry with 2 and

Leah “once more with feeling” Cobierski with 2 on a couple of long runs.

Girls rugby back in the win column.

May 2nd, 2012

The senior girls rugby team got back into the win column yesterday against Eastdale.  In a game that looked on paper like it should be close your Cougar’s dominated all phases of play from the start of the game until the final bell.  The result a 34-0 victory.  This game saw the forwards play a strong ball possesion game setting up the backs to run wild.  Every player deserves mention for their effort and determination. Great game ladies.  A fine display of rugby.

Scoring were:

Emily “full back for real” Martin with two trys and a convert

Reagan “inside job” MacDonald with a try and a convert

Mackenzie “back to the mines” Collier with two trys

and Dominique “learning to support” Manderson-Gray with her first ever try.

More practice awaits since Mr. Chatten will be tense to the 23rd.
