Report from the rain of Vimy April 9 2012
April 9th, 2012
Today was a test of endurance for the students of Courtice and all the visitors to today’s Ceremony. Almost immediately after the 2.5 km “Silent March” made by thousands of students and other visitors, the rain began. It rain and rained and rained for most of the 10 hours we were at the hill and for almost all of it we were outside. There was a sea of umbrellas and plastic ponchos as the mass of visitors struggled to stay dry in the icy cold conditions. The events unfolded as planned however and while many groups left early, Courtice students were real troopers and stuck it out to the end. We are very proud of the good spirit and fortitude displayed by all of our students in those horrendous conditions.
Tomorrow we head to Normandy to visit Dieppe and other important sites from WWII.
Greetings From Kent 2
April 7th, 2012
Hello all:
We are on day 3 of a hectic but very fun schedule. Everyone is doing well and having a good time so no need for worry. The students are enjoying themselves and are keeping the teachers in line and moving. We had a great day yesterday at the re-commencement of Green Park across from Buckingham Palace. It was a very formal event attended by 1000 or so and many dignitaries, Canadian and British. Our own Mr. Twist was the host and he did an absolutely stellar job. Clemence Ngandu brought greetings in French representing Canadian students attending the event. She was amazing and we were so proud of both she and Mr. Twist. We ended the day with an fantastic ride on the London Eye, which gave us awesome views of London at night.
Today (Saturday) we visited the British Museum, the Imperial War Museum and did a little shopping before we got on the bus for our 2 hour drive to Kent. We are staying by the seashore tonight (see pics) but are up at 5:30 a.m. to catch the early ferry to Calais. We will spend Sunday visiting many WW I sites in preparation for the big VIMY RIDGE ceremony on the ninth.
We have repeatedly asked students to call and email home so their parents don’t worry but the cell phone connections are sketchy and our WiFi hasn’t been too reliable either so you may not have heard. Don’t worry. Everyone is happy and healthy and we’d certainly let you know if that changed for anyone.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Easter weekend. We certainly are.
Greetings from Kent, April 7 2012

NOT a Courtice SS Grad Trip
March 29th, 2012
As the school year moves into spring, plans and flyers for “Grad” trips begin to circulate around the school. It is important for both parents and students to know that Courtice SS and the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board are not connected to these trips in any way. They are not organized, supervised or approved by the school. It is also important to know that students who choose to take themselves out of classes for an unauthorized trip, during the school year, cannot expect to receive accomodations for missed classes, assignments and tests.
