Your Junior Girls rugby team is headed to the quad “A” LOSSA finals for the second straight year. In their semi final match on Friday against the previously unbeaten GL Roberts your Cougars came out of the gate quickly. The forwards led by Linda “keep it low” Hamed and Jessica “in a Chevy town” Ford overpowered the bigger GL forwards at the breakdowns. The backs supported each other well throughout the game and played a swarming defense led by Chrissy “bruises” Gilbert and Meaghan “try given” Nakamura on the wings. The result a 22-7 victory. For the second game in a row it was a total team effort.

Scoring for the Cougars were:

Tanya “afternoon games” Hollingshead with two trys.

Ashley “brace for impact” Czop and Carly “leader of the pack” Warren with one try a piece.

The lone convert was from the boot of Alex “post” Groves

The finals take place on Wednesday at Raglan.

These girls play rugby. What is your superpower?

Both our junior (Riekie and Elise Moore) and senior girls (Paige, Katey) Parlaff relay teams also took first place finishes

Other top three performers at the meet include Mitch Robson (Shot Put), Brendan Randall ( Mile), and Lincoln Edwards ( 110m hurdles). Lincoln also set a new school record in the hurdles.

A number of Courtice students have read the Ontario Library Association nominated titles, both fiction and non-fiction, since the White Pine titles were announced late 2011. After voting in April, some students were able to attend the celebration in Toronto and were part of the 1400 secondary school White Pine group that was at Harbourfront. The winning fiction title was Kelley Armstong’s The Gathering and the winning non-fiction work was Neil Pasricha’s Book of Awesome. A big shout out to all the White Pine readers this year for reading some of the best recent Canadian works available.

Your Junior girls rugby team faced Ajax in their first round playoff yesterday. The team started slowly but tackled well in the first ten minutes. When they got on track your Cougars played a strong ball possession game and the backs ran with speed and power. The result a 27-0 victory.

It was truly a team effort with contributions from all players. Notable performers and scorers were:

Alex “returns” Groves with flawless tackling to go with her first try and a convert.

Tanya “had em in stitches” Hollingshead with a try

Natasha “nice boots” Burry ended the game with a try and tackled with abandon

Ashley “freight train” Czop who would not be denied in her two try performance.

A special mention to the “Pack” the most fearsome forwards in junior rugby who dominated the scrums and ran with power and truculence.

Theses girls play rugby. What is your superpower?
