Welcome back!!
I am absolutely delighted to welcome all of you to Courtice SS for another school year. A special welcome to our grade nine students and the parents who are joining our school community. I am looking forward to working with all of you during your time here at Courtice.
Your primary goal should always be to achieve to the best of your ability in your classes preparing the groundwork for your success during this year and for the rest of your life. Get to class, be on time and be accountable for the expectations of your teachers and you will find that success will come naturally and much more easily. Having said that, I strongly encourage you to be involved in your school. There are so many opportunities to take part in sports, in clubs, and in the endless activities of the school. It is that involvement that will round out your school experience and help generate the positive memories of a lifetime.
We strongly encourage parents to get involved too. Often when students enter high school their parents seem to lose connection with the school. We want you to maintain regular contact with your child’s teachers. That can be done by telephone or using school board e-mail. Regular contact between home and school is a powerful tool to help students succeed. We also have regular school council meetings. Our first for this school year is on September 21st, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. All Courtices parents are encouraged to get involved.
Please remember that Courtice SS is a cell phone free zone. Cell phones are not to be turned on or used at any time while inside the building. Calls can be made at break or lunch hour but students must leave the building to do so. Ipods and other music devices are permitted inside the building, but their use in the classroom is conditional and at the teachers’ discretion.
Our first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. If you are driving your child to school please make sure that you arrive prior to that. On most days there is a small line-up of cars but with inclement weather traffic can be very busy. It is important that students get to class on time. If your child is a walker, please work with them to ensure that they arrive at school on time.
Courtice Secondary School is an outstanding school that consistently demonstrates success at the highest levels. We are your community school and we are dedicated to our students and to our community. We are always looking for ways to increase connections, establish new partnerships and enhance relationships. Let us know what we can do and how we can help.
Again, a most sincere welcome to all. We look forward to another terrific school year.
