Courtice Secondary School

50 Years of Academic Excellence

Vermont Trip2010

Principal’s Message

August 28th, 2011

Welcome to Courtice SS for the 2011 2012 school year.  A special welcome to our grade nine students and the parents who are joining our school community.   I am looking forward to working with all of you during your time here at Courtice.

Whether you are in grade nine or grade twelve or anywhere in between, your main task is to achieve to the best of your ability in your classes and prepare the groundwork for your success during this year and for the rest of your life.  Our school is consistently among the highest achieving schools in our Board and in our school area.   Be proud to be part of that history of excellence and do your very best to make your contribution during your time here.  Attend class regularly,  be on time and be accountable for the expectations of your teachers and you will find that success will come naturally and much more easily. I strongly encourage you to be involved in your school.  There are so many opportunities to take part in sports,  in clubs,  and in the endless activities of the school.  It is that involvement that will round out your school experience and help generate the positive memories of a lifetime.

We strongly encourage parents to get involved too.   Often when students  enter high school their parents seem to lose connection with the school.   We want you to maintain regular contact with your child’s teachers.  That can be done by telephone or using school board e-mail.  All of our teachers are listed on this website.  All of them want to have a relationship with you.  Regular contact between home and school is a powerful tool  to help students succeed.    We also have regular school council meetings.  Our first for this school year is on Tuesday September 20 2011 ,  at 6:30 p.m. in the library.   All Courtices parents are encouraged to attend and get involved.

Please remember that Courtice SS is a cell phone free zone.  Cell phones are not to be turned on or used at any time while inside the building.   Please do not text or call your child on their cell phone during the school day.  Calls can be made (or received) only at break or lunch hour but students must leave the building to do so.  If you need to make immediate contact please call the main office and we will make sure your child gets the message.  Ipods and other music devices are permitted inside the building,  but their use in the classroom is  conditional and at the teachers’ discretion.

Our first bell rings at 8:15 a.m.   If  you are driving your child to school  please make sure that you arrive prior to that.  If there is a  line-up of cars,  drop your child off and let them walk the last 50 or 100 meters to the school.   In inclement weather traffic can be very busy so please take that into account as you get ready to start the day.   It is important that students get to class on time.  If your child is a walker,  please work with them to ensure that they arrive at school on time.

Courtice Secondary School is an outstanding school demonstrating exceptional success at the highest levels in academics and athletics.   In May 2011 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and now we are looking forward to another 50 years of excellence.  We are your community school and we are dedicated to our students and to our community.  We are always looking for ways to increase connections,   establish new partnerships and enhance relationships.  Let us know what we can do and how we can help.

Again,  a most sincere welcome to all.  We look forward to another terrific school year.

M. Perrault,  Principal
