Enriched Programme
Background information:
This web page is aimed at giving you an insight of what enrichment activities are available within and outside the school. It is however advisable that you drop into Room 132 or Guidance to find out “what’s happening”.
Enrichment Opportunities:
The depth and breadth of the activities offered through the program are structured to meet the needs of students who are highly motivated by challenging them beyond the classroom walls.
SERVICE
Students enjoy sharing their gifts with their school and wider community. The enrichment program provides a structured opportunity through:
CSS Leadership Team
Students will serve as mentors to younger students in the program, as guides to guests at Parent’s Nights. They will be engaged in organizing school events.
Peer Mediator
Peer mediation is a first step in solving conflicts. It is a process that allows students to take an active role in resolving conflicts and determining solutions to problems by initiating face-to-face discussions between students.
Interested in Becoming a Peer Mediator?
The primary role of the peer mediator is to listen and help other students discuss their problems so that disputants can think of their own solutions. For more information on this you can talk with your Guidance counsellor.
Math Tutors
Our math tutors are grade 12 students who volunteer to have their name put on a list for younger students to access. Some do the tutoring for community service hours and some charge a minimal fee ($10-15 per hour). Head of Math Department makes the recommendations for potential tutors.
Amigos
A lunch buddy programme set up in collaboration with our community partners – Heads up For Inclusion. It is a pilot project at our school that includes students with autism and DD (Amigos) who partner up with caring leaders (Connectors) within the school and play games and have some enjoyable moments during lunchtime. The Connectors get community hours for the time they spend with the Amigos. However, once the commitment is made the Connectors have to abide by it, otherwise they do not get the community hours. There is an opportunity for students to take lead roles as coordinators here.
