Me to We Club
April 13th, 2010
The Me to We Club meets every Wednesday at 11:00 am.
The purpose of this club is to have fun while helping people both locally and globally. We have participated in food drives, education and awareness campaigns regarding children’s rights, and raised funds for a school in Haiti.
The name of the club, “Me to We”, is meant to inspire people and to serve as a reminder that our actions (“Me”) have an impact on others (“We”). Together we can accomplish great things, and the Me to We Club is doing just that.
In November we attended “We Day 2010” at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. We were totally inspired by the artists and activists that presented! We had the opportunity to see Craig and Mark Kielburger, Betty Williams, Cherei Blaire, Alexander Bilodeau, Deepak Chopra, Down With Webster, K’Naan, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, Jacob Hoggard and Greyson Chance just to name a few.
Way to go Cougars!
See you Wednesday and bring your lunch.
KPRDSB
Me to We is hosting a hat, mitten and scarf drive on December 3rd. There will be representatives in the front foyer in the morning before class and at lunch. Feel free to drop off your unused hats, mitts and scarfs. All donations will be sent to the local Salvation Army. Let’s make this Christmas a warm one Cougars!
Thanks to all Cougars that participated in the hat, mitt and scarf drive. We collected over 70 articles of clothing in total!
Our next project will be to support the Toronto Zoo. We will be hosting a bake sale on Friday March 4. Some of the proceeds will go towards adopting a cougar at the Toronto Zoo.
All donations and participation would be greatly appreciated!
Halloween for Hunger 2010
Don’t forget that over 1000 non-perishable food items were collected by the Courtice Cougars, with 3/4 of that collected by the Me to We Club when they went trick-or-treating.
The homeroom that brought in the most items, Mr. Mastin’s homeroom, received a pancake breakfast cooked by Me to We! Yum!!
Bake Sale Success!
Results of the bake sale for the Toronto Zoo adopt a cougar program are on the way.
Thanks for the participation in the last Me to We bake sale. We are currently in the process of adopting our own cougar from the Toronto Zoo!
We may be having a Me to We fundraising blitz soon, please listen carefully to the announcements for more details (you just might have the chance to be president for a day)
This week at Wednesday’s Me to We meeting, there will be a student teacher visiting us to give a quick presentation about Sierra Leone and Mariatu.

On Friday April 15, Mariatu Kamara will be visiting our school to talk about her remarkable (and tragic) childhood.
Feel free to take a look at the bulletin board outside of the cougars den. On the bulletin board is some information on Sierra Leone and Mariatu.
Mariatu sent a thank you to the entire school today and invites us to her fundraiser on Sat. May 7th at 7:30pm at George Brown College 300 Adelaide E, Toronto. I wonder how many of you would like to attend? Tickets are $20
students, $30 advance, $40 door and $40 couples.
See at our next meeting on Wed. April 27. We will be discussing whether/how to try to carry on with the club next year.
The Me to We Club still meets on Wednesdays. The “We Day 2011″ at the Air Canada Centre, was very inspiring.
Tickets are awarded based on the reported accomplishments submitted throughout the school year. The average amount of tickets given to each school varies between 10 and 15. The school must be accepted and registered with Free The Children’s “Me to We” initiatives.
At the moment the club only has about 7 members.
The Me to We Club is thinking about doing Halloween for Hunger again. If we do this, we hope to have more students trick-or-treating for non-perishable food items and volunteer drivers to pick up their treats along designated locations on their routes.
The club is also thinking about doing the Vow of Silence in November – an education and awareness campaign regarding the lack of or non-existant rights of children around the world.
We’ll see how the planning goes!
The Me to We Day festivities were inspiring! It was a successful field trip with many new ideas and plans buzzing around the club.
The Halloween for Hunger campaign went well. Students enjoyed a night out trick-or-treating for non-perishable food items for Simcoe Hall Settlement House.
