Welcome!
At Courtice Secondary School I teach law, civics, and fashion. Having a major in Political Science with a specialty in the Charter of Rights and some practical law experience, I thoroughly enjoy teaching the grade 11 (CLU 3M1), grade 12 (CLN 4U1) law and the grade 10 open civics classes. The students have the opportunities to learn the basics of criminal and civil law, participate as lawyers and witnesses in Mock Trials and visit the Superior court in Toronto. Field trips and excursions to law facitilities are an important part of the students’ learning. All law students have the chance to participate in a joint intitiative with the Durham Regional Police this semester. Students who wish to join the Mock Trial team will be able to compete in the Ontario Bar Association’s Ontario-wide tournament.
This semester we have a 3E1 (workplace) Law course which provides a basic knowledge of both criminal and civil law. The students learn how to analyze cases, work with the Criminal Code of Canada, and create a scrapbook of current law cases. In the second term, the students will develop an understanding of lawsuits at the provicial court level and will prepare in-class dispute settlements. The activities, including a trip to Superior court and mock trials, are chosen in order to acuaint them with how law works in society.

Just recently I have taken on the fashion course (HBN 4O1) and with time hope to turn it into an interactive learning experience where students will gain the practical skills of sewing, knitting and clothing repair, learn and demonstrate aspects of design, use of colour and draping, in addition to achieving a basic comprehension of clothing manufacturing and merchandising. Students will also explore the economic, psychological, and environmental aspects of fashion.
