Our first unit in this class is all about finding out what your good at, what you like, and what you dislike. Some of the exercises bellow are designed to help you with this task.

Portfolio work – Done in Career Cruising
Complete the 3 self assessments in career cruising.
Write a journal entry in Career Cruising reflecting on your self assessment results. Were you surprised by the results of the assessment? Do you think the results are a lot like you or nothing like you? What types of jobs are your results. What jobs least interest you on that list.
Based on the career results choose 3 of the careers that interest you to investigate further. In a journal entry give a brief highlight/summary of those 3 careers.

First Assignment
Your first assignment is to create a visual resume. This resume should be a one page collage illustrating how awesome you are. Consider it like an “all about me page”. Your job is to visually depict at least 5 personal characteristics and have images from at least 3 experiences you have.
Exercise 3
Common-Traits-Employers-are-Seeking-in-Employees
When you are finished filling out this form, write a journal entry in career cruising. What do you think are your best and worst traits from this list. Choose what you feel are your 3 worst traits and come up with things you could do to improve on some of these traits to make yourself more marketable to employers.

Write a journal entry recording your score from the time management quiz. Do you think this quiz is accurate? What could you do to improve your time management skills.

Assignment 2
For this assignment students are required to record a 1 minute pitch to a potential employer. Your job is to give your “elevator pitch” to convince the potential employer to hire you on the spot. Start but coming up with a creative job you might be interested in then think of someone who may hire your for this job. Pretend you bump into them in an elevator and you only have 1 minute to convince them they should hire you by telling them about all your amazing qualities and experiences that would make you great for this job.

Course Selection Process
1. Figure out what you want to do with your life, career wise
2. Find programs to reach that goal
3. Research the program requirements
4. Plan your grade 12 year based on the requirements
5. Check that all your grade 11 class meet the prerequisites for the grade 12 classes.
